Chemistry & Molecular Life Sciences

Supervisors

Dr. Hans Elemans
Dr. Hans Elemans, supervisor. I am Hans Elemans and I have quite a long history at the Radboud University. After my chemistry study I also did my PhD research in Nijmegen, in supramolecular chemistry in the group of Prof. Roeland Nolte. After that I made a full switch to physics, where I developed a new research line on scanning tunneling microscopy in liquids. After a postdoctoral stay with Prof. Steven De Feyter at KU Leuven in Belgium I returned to Nijmegen in 2009 to become a group leader at the interface of chemistry and physics. My research interest are in the construction and study of complex molecular systems in solution and on surfaces, and to investigate their structural and reactive properties at all scales.

Dr. Dennis Löwik
Dr. Dennis Löwik, supervisor. After completing my MSc in organic chemistry in 1994, I received my PhD in medicinal chemistry in 1998 under the supervision of Prof. Rob Liskamp at Utrecht University. This was followed by a post-doctoral position in Cambridge (UK) in the biotechnology group of Prof. Chris Lowe until 2000. After a year’s stay in the supramolecular chemistry group of Prof. Bert Meijer, I was appointed in 2001 at the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Bio-organic chemistry group where I have taken an associate position since 2006. My research revolves around peptide-based materials, operating at the interface of chemistry, biology and physics, in order to develop smart materials and targeted drug delivery systems. Current topics are cell penetrating peptides, peptide based hydrogels, prostate cancer theranostics and peptide based vaccines.
